When does the 2020-21 Premier League season start? – For The Win

Liverpool won the Premier League title in an extended 2019-20 season that only just ended in late July due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the champions will begin their title defense in just a few weeks. Soccer fans won’t have to wait through any offseason breaks in 2020, as we’re just a week away from the FA Community Shield game – the traditional start of a new season.

Matchday 1 of the 2020-21 Premier League schedule is set for Saturday, September 12th. Manchester United and Manchester City will not play over the first weekend of the season, as they were given an extended break after playing in European tournaments over the summer.

FA Cup winners Arsenal will play Premier League champions Liverpool in the FA Community Shield game on August 29th.

Other major European leagues will also kick off in September. La Liga starts on September 12th, and the German Bundesliga begins on August 18th.

New teams for 2020-21:

Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich City were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2019-20 season. Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham were promoted to the Premier League for 2020-21.
